With less than a month to go, visit with us as we prepare for the 2009 National Barbie Convention! |
Things are pretty hectic here at NiniMomo these past few weeks as we prepare for the 2009 National Barbie Convention in D.C. It is a VERY special year as this is Barbie's 50th Birthday. For all of you that will be attending the Convention, get ready for a really good time with some wonderful surprises. If you have never been to a National Convention before, we definitely suggest a future attendance.
This is NiniMomo's 3rd consecutive convention after having stepped off the convention scene for nearly a decade. Each year, we challenge ourselves to improve the Convention experience from the year before.
This year, our second year of table hosting, we have planned for our 8 table guests, a very cool ambiance, some fun themed items and a couple of pretty cool surprises. For those who do not know what "table hosting" is, a host or hostess is primarily the planner for an individual table during the Convention's three ballroom events. Our table of ten include friends and collectors and we're looking forward to having a lot of laughs and a laid back time. We're very excited for one particular night's festivities for its terrific theme: Barbie Goes Traveling. Each table has chosen a state to represent and we immediately chose New York (as if we'd pick anything else!)
We're also planning to participate in the "Room Sales" events. Before the Salesrooms are officially open to Conventioneers and to the public, many dealers and artists host open room sales in their hotel rooms. We look forward to hosting another gathering complete with the mandatory champagne flowing and we invite all attendees to come by, have a glass and check out a sales preview of our NiniMomo Delegates! If you are not attending the convention but would like to attend our room sales soiree or would like to attend the public shopping day, send us an email and we'll give you information.
Here's a small preview of 10 of the 33 new Delegates made expressly for this year's Convention...
Another favorite event for us is the Live and Silent Auctions hosted at each Convention. These auctions are important aspects of this 6 day experience - not only do we have the opportunity to further exercise our creativity by submitting our one-of-a-kind dolls but all money made by the auctions go directly to charity. Last year in Kansas City, we Live Auction submission was a very fashion forward Dior setup that was a miniature replica of the 2007 Spring/Summer Dior Haute-Couture Fashion Show featuring three Barbie Divas wearing Dior-inspired Couture Ensembles depicted in that show. Our Silent Auction entree last year was a replica doll of the current Miss Universe for 2007, Riyo Mori of Japan. This year, since it is a very special Convention year with Barbie's Birthday Celebration, there will be no Live Auction as Mattel will be hosting that event. So, we decided to submit two entries for the Silent Auction. Although we want our creations to be a surprise unveiled at the Convention, we can say that one entry celebrates Barbie's 50th Birthday with a Dior feel while our other entry features three Barbie characters released in the last 70's that have been revamped NiniMomo style for 2009. We're looking forward to debuting these entries next month and hope we are able to raise a lot for charity.

If you're a Barbie fan, there really is no other way to completely immerse yourself in your hobby than by attending a National Convention. For us, we have such a blast meeting new people, seeing old friends, working and selling by day and partying by night. It truly is a Mecca for Barbie fans and collectors! We'd love to see you all at a future Convention. Keep it in mind!
