Meet Diane Giuffre
from Upstate New York, a NiniMomo collector and a talented artist. Diane has
recently created a collection of very cool Barbie themed jewelry combining
her love of
jewelry art and her love of everything Barbie.Diane started collecting Barbie back in 1988 when she received her first Holiday Barbie as a gift and from there her collection grew. In 2005, she joined the Lilac Fashion Doll Club which focuses on Barbie and her friends. Currently, The Lilac Fashion Doll Club meets once a month and has about 15 members. Each meeting, the group focuses on a variety of Barbie related topics and events. The current March meeting will be hosted at Diane's home and will be focusing on vintage Ken. The group shares their love for Barbie and each year they have an annual big events such as a Barbie banquet in May where an original doll designed is designed for each member. They also host an annual picnic and a Christmas charity event where the group donate toys and clothing for the needy. "My husband got me interested in taking a jewelry class a couple of years ago." Diane told us, "and I was surprised how much fun I had creating different designs for each piece of jewelry." Diane began creating bracelets and necklaces as gifts for friends and family for holiday and birthday gifts and was inspired by their reactions to continue onwards with her love of creating one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. And as a result of the Barbie club, Diane developed her artistic flair for combining both jewelry-making and Barbie. As a gift for her fellow members birthdays, she sought out some beautiful pink stones and crystals and created some specialty gift pieces. "Everyone in the club seemed happy to add this jewelry to their collection and they wear the bracelets to all our meetings and to the conventions!" Taking her jewelry making to the next level, Diane attended a bead show last year and is always seeking out unusual beads at the local bead shops. Pink stones, pearlescent beads, seed beads and crystals are all part of her repertoire and as her jewelry is for the adult collector, she strives to create pieces that are simply but elegant. Although pink is the chosen color for her Barbie themed pieces, she does create a variety of other color jewelry all with the Barbie theme upon request. Diane has recently expanded her jewelry line to include wire wrap pendants and necklaces and soon will be taking a ring making class. At the moment she is designing eyeglass holder chains....in pink, of course! "I met Nick and Marie of at my first Barbie convention in Dallas, Texas. I fell in love with their beautiful dolls and enjoyed making new friends who love Barbie as I do. At the 50th Anniversary Barbie convention last year in Washington, DC, I presented Marie with one of the pink bracelets I created. I look forward to working on new jewelry creations and of course...collecting the next beautiful NiniMomo Creation!
Diane will be selling her unique and trendy jewelry at both the 2010 and 2011 National Barbie Conventions in Cleveland and Ft. Lauderdale. To put in a special order or inquire about any of the pieces you see here in our newsletter, you can contact Diane after 5pm at 585-288-6409.
