It's time to take Ken a little more seriously...  with that said welcome to NiniMomo's World Kens Collection 2010

After years and years of debating, NiniMomo has finally decided to venture into the World of Ken. Surprisingly enough, we realized just how much we enjoy creating for Ken, especially keeping to an international theme. Through the years we had many requests to create a collection of Kens - whether a male model collection or just replica movie star Kens - however we just weren't feeling it. Finally, after a little research and an open mind, we decided to create just three Kens, all based on an international theme and bring them along to Las Vegas for last summer's International Fashion Doll Convention.

For weeks we developed a plan which was to focus on international costumes and forms of dress for the male form. At first it seemed a little limiting, especially since our specialty really is creating couture evening wear for Barbie in a rainbow of colors, dripping with hand-sewn beadwork. However, it wasn't long before we discovered that there is absolutely no limit to what we can do with Ken's clothing. In fact, through out research, we found many costumes that could give our Barbie couture a run for the money. NiniMomo found it particularly interesting to research and then translate the authentic costuming and clothing into that 1:6 form.

With just a few weeks to spare, we created our three very first International Kens representing Greece, Scotland and India and brought them along with "the girls" to the IFDC. We introduced them as "test runs" at introductory prices. We were shocked when all three of those Kens sold off within, no joke, 20 minutes. It was really exciting to see such a strong reaction to our Kens - especially when we recently discovered how much we enjoyed creating them.

NiniMomo's introductory Kens of the World

So, after 14 years of creating Barbie, we decided its time to incorporate Ken into our collections. And yes, we will be hosting a "NiniMomo's Ken of the World Competition" once our introductory collection completes at around 50.

One of the best things we discovered is that our hallmark hand-sewn beadwork definitely comes into play and we still feel true to ourselves and our company by creating one-of-a-kind Kens that represent and reflect our love of both fashion and world culture. In fact, in many ways, Ken can be more challenging as attention to detail is very important in re-creating authentic pieces of an ensemble.

Our current plan is to bring about 10 World Kens to this summer's National Barbie Convention and designs have already been put together for a British, French, Italian, Mexican and Russian Ken to name just a few. In the meantime, we have spent the last two months creating another three very special OOAK World Kens to debut exclusively within this newsletter.

Our Winter 2010 Newsletter is proud to release Spanish Matador Ken, Chinese Emperor Ken and Masai Warrior Ken

These three Kens of the World are now available so send us an email if you're interested. As usual, they are one-of-a-kind so they are being sold on a first come basis.
