NiniMomo Doll Appears in Museum Exhibit

The Bishop
Museum, Hawaii, was the site of the Ho' ike ike '98 exhibit
sponsored by Brook Lee to
"thank"
the people of Hawaii for their support during her reign as Miss
Universe 1997. The biggest
attraction
was a glass case showcasing some of the prizes won by Lee as a
state and national titleholder. We were so pleased and excited to
see Brook's NiniMomo replica doll in the very center of the
display. It was an all out party with hula halaus (dance groups),
local bands playing Hawaiian music, ethnic food booths and
assorted Hawaiian crafts. Some of the crafts featured were Koa
wood jewelry, bowls, frames, furniture, beautiful muumuus,
t-shirts and souvenirs for sale. Brook's exhibit was titles
"Mixed Plate" which has two meanings in Hawaii. The
term "Mixed Plate" usually refers to plate lunches with
a variety of different food such as spam - Brook's favorite,
especially "Spam Musubi." Other foods include Teriyaki
beef, beef stew and fried chicken. When "Mixed Plate"
is used in reference to people, it means someone of many diverse,
ethnic backgrounds - like Brook: Hawaiian, Korean, Portuguese,
French, Dutch and Chinese. The event was the kick off for Brook's
return to Hawaii, as well as the beginning of the Miss Universe
schedule of events. Once again, thanks Brook for always
remembering us! A special thanks to Jan Kelson for all the
information and pictures!
