From the world famous Broadway musical, winner of 3 Tony awards plus a Grammy, the story of the witches of Oz has been a Broadway hit since 2003 and is the 12th longest running show on Broadway.
Playing Elphaba, the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, Barbie debuts for the Italian Doll Convention Live Auction in her glorious ensemble mirroring the original elaborate creation worn by Idina Menzel, the original Elphaba.
Elphaba Barbie wears an extremely intricate corseted asymmetrical top that has been created in numerous tiny patchwork fabrics of mixed silks, lames, lace and chiffon, all of which have been delicately pieces together to form the bodice.
Bodice also features overlays of black chiffon, along sleeve and keyhole style top revealing beneath the subtle shimmers of rich brilliant lame.
Hand-created silk charmeuse piping has also been added to the corseted top.
Shoulder have been created like original, with custom dyed silk chenille and and custom heat cut chiffon leaves and ruffles.
Keyhole chest as well as sleeves and wrists have been decorated with hand-sewn beadwork in Jet black seed beads and miniscule iridescent black sequins.
The laboriously detailed corset gives way to a full ruffled skirt of black 100% silk taffeta.
The skirt, like the top, is opulent and detailed with its bevy of custom created tiers, often asymmetrical, of ruffles in laces, brocade, silks, lames, taffeta – the list goes on!
Once these numerous tiers had been added to the gown, hand-sewn scattered tiny black iridescent sequins have been added throughout for added shimmer.
Coming off back of asymmetrical corset bodice is the quintessential witch’s cape created in black 100% silk textured chiffon lined in a dazzling two tone silk and gold lame blended purple and teal chiffon.
Her hat has been created in a matching faux leather textured fabric complete with silk charmeuse piping and a hand-sewn row of hand-sewn tiny iridescent black sequins.
Elphaba carries her wooden broomstick complete with raffia bristles wrapped in crystalline organza and decorated with scattered hand-sewn beadwork.
Black has been custom heat permed and worn in loose curls.
